James nodded in response to Briar's conclusion about Midnight and his interaction level with other horses; which of course would be none. It wasn't very hard to see why either. Why Midnight could probably give Adam a run for his money when it came to monster-like features and he's known as "The Beast!" Everyone was terrified of the horse and it wouldn't be that far of a leap to assume that large and very skittish animals would be scared too. However that may have been an assumption and you know what they say about assuming things. Or there was also the chance that the stablehands who were working in the barn at the time of Midnight's arrival didn't know what the hell they were doing. James and his dad had to deal with a couple of fools like that before.
The Prince also picked up on the slight reluctance in Briar's voice. It was as if he didn't want Midnight to get along with the other horses and in time maybe the humans as well, and James didn't understand it at all. His confusion was shown clearly on his face as his eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion. Wouldn't Briar want the stallion to be happy and not have to be all alone all the time? It completely boggled the Prince's mind. A million different reasons flew about in James' mind, but none of them was the reason. It never occurred to him that this shy, silent room mate of his didn't want Midnight to get along with the others because then the horse would no longer be like him. He was afraid that he would lose that special connection and honestly James didn't have a single clue.
"It was just an idea, we don't have to do it you know." James said gently as he watched Briar talk to the horse. It was clearly bugging the man fairy, and if he wasn't comfortable with it, James wasn't going to push forward. What kind of friend would that make him if he did after all?
