Mirror, Mirror
Face Claim/PB:
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Appearance: Just like how the original Romanova sisters were known far and wide for their beauty, the newest generation --and the last of the Grand Dukes and Duchesses-- are no different. Tatiana, the eldest daughter, in particular, proves this to be true. At first glance, she appears to be little more than a carbon copy of her mother when it comes to the looks department, but it's clear with a second glance that this German-Russian beauty isn't exactly like the missing Anastasia. True, she may have her mother's face and stature as well as her amber colored eyes. (Oh well, maybe more of a dark brown, but they're the Romanovs, they can say it's whatever color they want it to be.) But the one major difference that sets them apart would clearly be their hair. Anya's is a light brown while Tati's is very simply a dark brown. Some people who didn't know her family would have attributed this to her father, but that can't be because his hair is a reddish-brown; so somehow their daughter ended up with hair that's darker than then the both of them! One explanation could be that she received it from her maternal grandfather, Tsar Nicholas II, but she's not entirely convinced.
Although she was raised in the midst of the great depression in central Europe, her style of dress most certainly does not reflect her upbringing. Once she arrived at Seacombe Halpworth she cast aside the white frocks and the blue bows for jeans and graphic tees that would, "never befit the one of Russia's last Grand Duchesses" as her grandmother Empress Marie Feoderovna would say if she were still alive. However, Tatiana doesn't care as it's been a long time since anyone has been referred to her as Grand Duchess. Instead, especially now since she lives in the forest village, she chooses her outfits for practicality rather than style. So instead of the heels her "peers" at the school are sporting, Tati will prefer combat boots or her trusty pair of hand-me-down beat up sneakers that has been passed down from those who've outgrown them in the village. Despite all of this, Tatiana still has a slight affinity for light makeup and simple jewelry, and it's quite rare to find Tati without a dash of lipstick here and a few bangles there. It's nothing too flashy, and she wears it for no one, but herself. She was born one of the last grand duchesses of Russia, she was raised as one, and even though she hasn't touched a dress in ages there are just some things she couldn't give up. So if J.P. doesn't like it, that's just too bad.
Personality: [We'd like at least a good couple of paragraphs for this,
so we can judge how good a grasp you have of the character. You could
talk about their general attitude towards life, how they are around
strangers, is that different to what they're like once they get to know
somebody? This is all the sort of thing we'd like to know.]

Look into the Past
Look into the Past
History: After defeating Rasputin for what was hopefully the final time, Anastasia (Anya) and Dmitri had every intent on traveling the world, but that was all cut short just a little over a year later when Empress Maria Feodorovna, Anya's grandmother, died of old age leaving the last surviving Romanov alone in the world once more. There was a small blessing to this however as due to her age, many of the well-to-dos of French society didn't believe Maria when she claimed that she had found her youngest granddaughter again only for her to run off with a peasant boy. So for all intensive purposes, Anastasia was still presumed to have died with her parents, sister, and brother on that fateful night eleven years before.
So their return to Paris in 1928 was a quiet affair. At first, they had planned to stay for just a few weeks to pay their respects, help Sophie adjust to life without her beloved cousin, and let Anya say goodbye; however the death took a far greater toll on her than any of them anticipated. Much like her mother after her son's diagnosis, Anastasia fell into a depression. Dmitri tried his hardest to coax the old Anya back to him, but it soon became clear that their reckless days were over. The loss of the person in the world who she could call her family was just far too great and the grand duchess blamed herself for not spending more time with her grandmother while she still had the chance. However, this wasn't the only reason as to why the pair had decided to settle down for good with Sophie in the Empress's old home. Instead, there was another large reason that everyone welcomed with open arms; the birth of a daughter in early 1929.
This child was none other than Miss Tatiana Dmitrievna Romanova, named in traditional Russian fashion with the slight exception with her last name. In order to defy Rasputin to the last, both Anya and Dmitri had long ago agreed that if they were to have children they would carry the Romanov name instead of Dmitri's so the family line wouldn't end with Anya. So that is how one of the last Grand Duchesses of Russia --as only the grandchildren of Tsars could carry the title of Grand Duke/Dutchess, all generations beyond that carried the title of Prince or Princess-- came into the world, and soon more siblings followed suit with each one of them being named after an important figure in Anastasia's childhood in order to have the Romanovs "live on" in a sense. Some people were surprised that Anastasia chose to honor her second eldest sister first as many assumed that the child would be named for either her grandmother or her mother, but those who knew the royal family as well as those who heard the memories that Anya could recall, it was actually of little surprise as Tatiana was widely regarded as the leader of the Romanova girls. She was the favorite of the family so she was the first Anya and Dmitri honored.
Thanks to the Romanov fortune, the young family lived in relative comfort throughout the Great Depression and the children were raised as if they were still legally allowed to use the titles of Grand Duchesses and Dukes. The siblings were homeschooled in the arts, diplomacy, music, the military, and three languages (French, Russian, and English) among other things that were regarded to be a key part of a royal child's upbringing. However, there was a downside to all of this. While they were younger and children couldn't be trusted with being quiet, especially ones that were the children of the mischievous Anastasia, they were kept relatively isolated in order to be sure they wouldn't reveal any family secrets as the threat of Lenin's and then Stalin's assassins was very real, even outside of the Soviet Union. However, this wasn't much of a problem. Tatiana, or Tanya as she was called, grew close to her siblings and as a result, there was always someone to play with. The games they played were rather tame however as Anastasia was revealed to be a carrier of the dreaded disease that plagued her brother, hemophilia. Luck was on this Romanov families side as none of the boys were discovered to have the disease and the girls could only be carriers as Dmitri did not have hemophilia himself. Tatiana and her sisters were carefully watched and sadly it was seen that Tatiana's blood doesn't clot as quickly as it should. She does not have the disease, but she is a carrier. So her games were somewhat restrained growing up.
Beyond this note of caution, Tatiana's life was seemingly perfect until late 1939 when Anastasia fell ill and sadly did not recover. The loss hit all the children hard as this was the death of their mother, but Dmitri was hurt the most. Consumed by his grief over the sudden turn of events, he completely ignored the threat of the impending war. In fact, if it weren't for Vladimir and Sophie the entire family may have been trapped in Paris for the invasion by the Germans. They managed to convince Dmitri to move to the countryside with the children for their protection. So even as the Nazis controlled France, they were okay. However the adults still feared that noisy neighbors who were on the lookout for people to turn over in exchange for more rations would discover the children's secret so one by one as they all turned twelve they were sent off to Seacombe Halpworthe that at the time promised to keep the children safe during the midst of the war.
Being the oldest Tatiana was the first to go and in the beginning, it seemed to be wonderful as she was with people her age and she was free to call herself "Grand Duchess" as she was supposed to. However it was all soon shattered as suddenly in the middle of the night during her first year, she and other students were exiled to the forest for reasons that nobody knew. Little Tanya was terrified of course, even more so than when her mother died or when they had to move, because at least then they had answers. This time, though? There was nothing. To this day, there still isn't any answers. However despite the lack of answers, like her mother before her, toughened up to face her circumstances instead of hiding somewhere and sobbing all day and all night. Soon she started going by Tati, even though she had always preferred Tanya, and even though several chances arose to let her go home, she stayed to help those who were also left in the forest and to also watch over her brother(s) and sister(s) who decided to stay as well. After all, those younger ones are all going to need a kinder face than the village's leader to keep an eye on them until they are either welcomed back to the school or their allowed to freely go home. Though judging by the fact that they had all been out here for over six years already, that probably won't happen anytime soon. Hopefully, though these current students who appeared in their camp not too long ago will change things, but in the meantime Tatiana isn't getting her hopes up.
