Face Claim/PB
Jake T. Austin
Fortunately for this seventeen year old, he and his father don't share much when it comes to the looks department. Or at least that's what he believes because the only image this young man has of this man is his horrified, frightened face etched into his father's tombstone. Now no kid wants to look like that. Though although he doesn't really now it, he does have a few things in common with the shadow man. First off there's just how skinny the kid is. Compared to other pupils here at Seacombe he is about the size of a twig. No matter how much you feed him, or how long he works out his body just doesn't gain any weight. (Though he does surprisingly have a few muscles on him, not much though.) Fast metabolism some may say. Nope it's from his father and nothing could be done about it.
Louis also surprisingly shares the same hair style as his father. Dark, short, and somewhat wavy. Though you won't often see this though. For the most part he keeps it tucked up under a hat he found that was similar to the one his father wore. He even painted on the Skull and Crossbones himself. Also those who met the father and son would agree wholeheartedly, Louis inherited the Shadow Man's deceiving smile and the cunning glimmer in this boy's murky hazel eyes. Which of course is helpful when tricking people into accepting one of his 'deals' that leave them in more of a mess than what they started with. Just another chip off the ol' block wouldn't you say?
However there is things that Louis received from the mother he never met. Such as his skin tone for starters, which you may have noticed is considerably lighter than his father. Well that's because Louis here bi-racial. Yeah his mother was Caucasian while Doctor Facilier was African-American. Now in today's day and age it isn't so uncommon, but in the 1930s American south? Oh dear god, back home Louis is a cousin of the unicorn. So his skin tone is a rather sore spot for Louis to deal with so understandably the boy can be rather pissy if you dare bring it up. Now another thing he got his mother is his murky hazel eyes that seem to bridging the gap between brown and green which suggests his mother had a similar eye color. Not to mention his not so lanky frame despite his physical likeness to a twig. In fact height wise, he is about the same height as his counterparts. However these alone aren't enough to put together a picture of what his mother, which continues to plague the boy day and night, though he would never dare express this yearning to find out what makes him Louis Baptiste and what makes him Louis Facilier. Ari would never let him hear the end of it.
When it comes to his choice of outfits however there is only one way to describe it, it's as if Louis was a showman instead of a student. His closet consists of old outfits of his father's that he had found back in New Orleans and he now owns. For the most part these outfits are variations of his trademark costume. Though occasionally Louis could be seen wearing a simple t-shirt and pair of jeans that are always in the color schemes of red, black, and purple. Normally you see him like this if he recently made a deal with some student, and he doesn't have to worry about catching people's attention with his outfits. Though regardless of what he's wearing in terms of outfits there is two things you will always find on him regardless. Two necklaces, one with three shark's teeth on a simple string, and one with a familiar talisman. He would never dare leave these behind in his dorm room, since they are the source of his power. He even sleeps with them on for Christ's sake. So don't think you'll ever get a chance to wear them. He would much rather suffer the same fate as his father before letting them out of his sight.
Personality:
First and foremost it is clear that Louis is a villain and he's a hell of a good one at that. After all his defining trait is his ability to deceive people with a simple smile, slight of hand, or even using carefully chosen words. It's comes so easy to him that from the moment he lays his sights on you, he'll know exactly what to do to turn you to putty and fall for any deal he offers. After all it's in his blood. Though of course there are a few people he just can not trick, but for the most part if he offers to interpret your tarot cards or read your palm, you are a goner. No if, ands, or buts about it. Obviously in order to do this Louis is a smooth talker, which comes naturally to him since he's fluent in two different languages. English and Française so don't be surprised if this pretty boy sweet talks you into falling for his trap. After all the ladies adore being complimented in another language. Then again he could secretly cursing you out and you would never even know the difference.
Clearly Louis also lacks remorse for his actions and the lives he ruins through his deals. After all what does he care your going to spend the rest of your life as a bug. That's how he came into this world, the result of a dirty deal so you can deal with your new body or whatever he left you with. He doesn't care, you get what your gonna get and besides it's your own life choices and desires that cause your fates. Louis just interprets the cards.
He is also incredibly power hungry and will do absolutely anything to get his grubby hands on more of it. If you got it, then you can be rest assured Louis is going to take it from you. Or least he's going to go the ends of the earth trying. He wants to be top dog here at Seacombe Halpworth just like his fellow villains and he isn't afraid to step on sidekicks, princesses, princes, or even fellow villains to get there. Luckily he's already got an army to help him with this. Louis is also incredibly stubborn believing that he is always right, everyone else is wrong and there is nothing they can do about it. Obviously this has caused some head butting among the more hot headed of villains, but at least Louis has been able to keep his temper in check long enough to not send the Loa (Shadow Demons) against any of his fellow bad guys... yet...
Now being human, Louis does have some major flaws like the fact that he is incredibly impulsive. The voodoo bokor is always going after another challenge, another unattainable soul, and making another impossible deal. He's like Abu from Aladdin, if it's shiny, and he's been told to stay away from it, you can guarantee he's going right after the moment you look away. There's no stopping this kid once he puts his mind to something.
Also it's nice to point out that Louis is vain, not as bad as some of the other villains, but he still takes a huge and irrational amount of pride in how he presents himself because he knows it's all about the first impressions. Screw up the first time around and you can cross who ever he was talking to off of the list of possible souls to trade to the Loa in exchange for his powers. So he is always checking his hair in a mirror or asking his allies if his outfit looks nice and all of that wonderful fluff.
One last thing about Louis, is incredibly patient and will wait for as long as it take for him to make a deal or get the payout of said deal. After all nothing will get done correctly if your constantly harping people about his business. Louis will wait for the pieces to fall into place and in the end he always gets what he wants from his victims. He wins in the end, Louis always wins.
Powers:
Now Louis' powers aren't technically inherited or at least the school doesn't consider them to be, but he sure as hell does. Similar to his father, Louis' powers come from both the gator toothed necklace he wears along with the Talisman for support. In order to get them he quite literally made a deal with the devil and not only is his soul no longer his, but he has to bring in a yearly quota of fresh ones as well. He mostly sweet talks Ari for this though, you know a couple of eternally damned ones to do the Voodoo spirit's dirty work. It's a perfect loophole while he's here in this cesspool of over inflated egos and gullible fools.
Of course there's a few limitations to what he can and can not do. Everything he does has to be in the form of a deal that normally leaves him with what he wants and what his victim doesn't. Deception is the name of the game, ma chérie. However that doesn't happen often since mostly everyone knows by now that any deals made with the shadow kid will end badly, very badly indeed. When he does have a deal going though, Louis can do whatever the hell he wants. Well more like the shadows do what he needs them to, but still it's his commands they're following.
In addition to the necklaces and the minions that are a thousand times cooler than anything his other villain counterparts could muster up, Louis has his father's pink powder which makes smaller deals take place (such as turning a bald guy into a gorilla), his own moving shadow that does his dirty work for him, and his father's infamous tarot cards that appear to show you one future, but in reality hides your real fate. Cool toys eh?

Look into the Past
History:
Louis' woeful tale begins several months before Prince Naveen landed in the New Orleans. Hidden in an alleyway, a deal was being struck between a naive brown haired and hazel eyed girl and the Shadow Man. Not much is known about her. Her name was a mystery, but it was clear by the way she completely trusted the Voodoo bokor and how she looked at everything in the Crescent City that she had not been here long. Maybe straight off the steam ferry, or perhaps she had wandered around for a few days. No one knows. Except for the Shadow man, he knows all.
He knew that she had come down the Mississippi from a little farm up North in search of new views, new lifestyle, and most importantly in her mind a new man. After all this was the roaring twenties in America, everyone was indulging in the rewards from the economic boom and this girl had her heart set on catching some gentleman who would let her follow this dream of hers. Now in her quest, she ran into Doctor Facilier and he could tell exactly what she wanted. So he tempted her with his tarot cards. One showed her background, unwanted and unloved as the fourth child out of seven, her quest to fill that void, and finally her wearing a long, flowing white dress looking down at the city below through a window. Believing the last card showed her wedding day, the gullible country girl shook the poor sinner's hand and sealed her fate.
However it's what she didn't see in the photo that interests us. In the tarot card the young woman wore no veil, had no engagement ring on her finger, and her stomach was protruding from the dress in a perfect half circle. This is Louis' mother and she had created a deal with the devil. Of course she would get the love and adoration she so desperately craved, but in return she would be outcasted from society. For that sweet amour would come from her unborn child. As for being ostracized, until only recently any children born out of wedlock and their mothers were shunned and frowned upon.
To make matters worse, unknowingly the mother had agreed that her soul was not going to be payment for what she so desperately wanted. Her child was the price. From the moment they are born they belonged to the Loa. Although they wouldn't come to collect until the child was older, their lives would be riddled with misfortune and misery. They would never know happiness and it would be her fault for trusting in the Voodoo.
Now it was never Facilier's plan to have the child be his own as well, and it can be attested that he never laid a finger on her, but unfortunately another contributor of DNA was needed so the Loa improvised with the only other human in the room. So when the talisman bit her finger, a part of Facilier passed into her through the Talisman as well. The child was now not only the product of voodoo, but one of it's masters blood would run through the child's veins.
The child grew at an astronomical rate given the Loa's influence, so after only four and a half months after meeting the shadow man, our unfortunate mother was about to give birth and there was only one place that would help her given the fact that she was pregnant and no father was in sight. A catholic orphanage in the French Quarter. Her plan was to leave the child here and go back up North to her family and pretended as if she had never been to this wretched city that had only brought her misery. She hated the child inside of her, she wanted it out, and she wanted to forget about it. She had convinced herself that it was the devil's offspring which was partially true. This notion was only confirmed when she went into labor when dark grey storm clouds filled the New Orleans sky.
Now what she didn't know is that across the city, the baby's father was chasing two frogs. It didn't take her very long to bring the child into the world and at the very moment the baby took it's first breath, Facilier was pulled into the Voodoo version of Hell, never to walk the earth again. The child hadn't even been named, yet the Loa had already cast misery's far reaching cloak against the new lad.
His mother didn't last long either, too much blood lost it was later said. However we know it was a far different reason. She too slipped away before the rain stopped. The little lad hadn't been on earth for more than five minutes and yet he had already lost the only blood relations he had. His howls filled the air mourning those he would never know. The nuns who ran the orphanage too mourned the loss of the boy's mother and named the lad since the mother had refused to reveal her choice before she had gone into labor.
This is how Louis César Baptiste came to be.
As the years passed Louis' never learned of who his parents were. He just knew his mother had died giving birth to him and his father was a no show. However it didn't really bug him at first, he just thought everyone grew up in a children's home. For the most part the first few years of his life was fairly happy and uneventful. Though there was something always off about him, since from an early age he was a cunning, evil child. Tricking other children into unfair deals, stealing from others, and just being downright cruel.
Of course all measures where taken to beat this out of him, but there is no undoing the building blocks of ones life. So the nuns were forced to turn a blind eye to his behavior. Convinced that if they ignored it and gave with a proper catholic education he would become an upstanding member of society. It appeared to work as he grew older, but instead Louis just got better at covering up his tracks. Spitballs were untraceable, airtight alibis for thievery, and of course deals were struck by moonlight. Of course it didn't help the young lad had a little help in all of this.
When Louis turned ten, he noticed strange shadows beginning to follow him. First he shrugged it off as a trick of his mind, but as time went on they became more pronounced and their were more of them. He was beginning to worry, seeing things was a one way trip to the asylum or worse exorcisms. So he tried to ignore them, but of course it didn't work. These were the Loa, Louis' soul belonged to them and they wanted to collect.
However they did have a little problem at same time. With Facilier in their world, they no longer had a middleman to collect the souls of the desperate and foolish for them. So they had two options. Find some other power hungry idiot who can shuffle a few cards and sweet talk those into agreeing to give up one of the only things that they truly needed here on this earth, or get the offspring of the last fool. Figuring that the Loa are incredibly lazy when it comes to recruitment you can guess which way they went.
So one day while out and about in the city, Louis was shadow-jacked and was forcibly brought to the graveyard where the infamous showdown between the king of voodoo and a frog took place and at ten and a half years old he laid eyes on his father for the first time. He was horrified and disgusted by the image before him and he couldn't believe that this was the man who gave him life. However the Loa used their powers to show him what Facilier looked like when he wasn't being dragged into a portal where he was going to be eternally tortured by his former employers.
Louis could tell that they were not lying. Though he didn't know how he knew, he just did. the lad could see parts of him in the moving image in front of him. The two of them talked the same way as well as moved about the same way. Using his hands and arms for emphasis, and their hair. Louis had yet to run across someone with similar hair to his and yet it was staring right back at him.
When the picture faded away, Louis craved more information and practically begged the Loa to reveal more. Of course they obliged because they wanted this kid to replace his father. They told him about his father's line of work and the tale of his downfall careful to point out what happened if the kid were to try and destroy something of theirs. By the end of it the kid was hooked. He wanted to follow in father's footsteps and he wanted to do it right away. Nevermind that he wasn't even eleven yet, this was the only connection he had now to family. He wasn't about to throw it out the window. Now that's what the Loa was hoping for.
Once Louis agreed to become the next Shadow man, the Loa brought him to his father's old parlor for hosting deals and reading tarot cards. Granted it was dusty and everything hadn't been touched by humans in years, Louis loved it. This was his father's, a man who Louis didn't even know the name of earlier that morning, but now he was going to replace. Also by being the only flesh and blood of Facilier, that meant this parlor was his now. Not only did he have a family, but he had somewhere he belonged, where he could escape and hide out in during the day and only have to return to the orphanage at night. This was a dream come true for the orphaned villain.
New Orleans now had it's shadow man once again.
Now Louis didn't have to go out and start making sophisticated deals just yet, the Loa gave him time to learn his dad's tricks and clean up the parlor. A year and a half to be exact. So in that time Louis went from mischievous child to full out demon at the orphanage. He often sent out the Loa against kids he didn't like and they grudgingly obliged because they were going to need the kid. Suddenly all his antics were driven up several notches and nobody understood why. Or where he went during the day or how he got out, but he did. Everyday he went to the parlor, learning how to properly read the tarot cards, how to perform the rituals, and of course tidying the place up.
He was a quick learner when the time was almost up he could expertly preform every trick of his father's and he became the epitome of deception because of the shadows. However what he valued the most, through all those hours of scrubbing and dusting, Louis learned a whole lot about his father. He could tell you which books he had in the parlor, or how his favorite color appeared to be a purplish-red mixture, but to his disappointment he couldn't find anything about his mother.
At last when he was ready to take over in his father's place when Louis was twelve, a strange man appeared at the orphanage. He insisted he was a friend of Louis' father and was here to take him to an academy his parents wanted him to go to. Of course Louis protested. There was no way his father would have wanted the young lad to go to this stupid Seacombe Halpworth, he would have wanted his son to become the next shadow man. However he couldn't jut admit this in front of the nuns, so he gave pathetic excuses as to why he couldn't go. However the orphanage wanted to get rid of the little demon. So that very day he was packing up his meager belonging that was in the orphanage and went to this school.
Now five years later, Louis has proven himself to be one hell of a villain. He jumped headfirst into the role they gave him, after all this was following in his father's footsteps. He was becoming his family through this. Although he isn't technically top dog among the villains, he's proven that he's up there. Partly because of the fact that when he showed up on the doorsteps of the academy he already had an army of shadows to follow his everyword. So clearly that gave him an instant cool factor, and he didn't have to fight with the others for the small pool of available minions.
He hasn't stepped foot in the orphanage since he left it all those years ago. Whenever he is forced to go back to New Orleans, he just goes straight to the parlor and gives tarot as well as palm readings. Also giving out plenty of deals as well. After all he's got a quota to fill, and not so secretly he wants the names of Tiana's and Naveen's children on that list as pay back for stealing his father from him from the moment he was born.

Tell us a Story
RP Sample:
Louis carefully observed the scene in front of him, so many gullible people passing him by. So many opportunities for striking a deal and yet no one was paying attention to the strangely dressed villain leaning causally against one of the cafeteria walls. Of course people were ignoring him, they were far more interested with shoving the five star meals in front of them down their gullets. Yet they should be paying attention to him. He was the most powerful person here, everyone should be throwing themselves at his feet, but no they are all goody two shoes. Princes and Princesses with their loyal sidekicks at their sides. He hated them. Oh what he wouldn't give to unleash the Loa on them and shut their stupid mouths for once. After all it was because of a stupid little prince who didn't like the fact that destiny had fated him to be a frog and his little hotheaded girlfriend that Louis was an orphan. If they had just accepted what the cards said instead of rushing to be the hero, his father may have lived long enough for the seventeen year old to actually meet him. Nope, because of those idiotic amphibians his father had to die the moment Louis took his first breath.
Just the mere thought of how much he hated those goody two shoes made his blood boil and for a minute he was tempted to actually send out the shadow demons. However there was stupid limitations on his powers while he was here. Yes he got to keep the Loa's because apparently they were crucial to his father's story, but he couldn't use them outside of a deal and currently he had none of those going. Nobody wanted to take a chance with the appropriately nicknamed shadow kid. Maybe those Princes and Princesses were smarter than what he gave them credit for.
Out of the corner of his eye he could see his own shadow reacting to his emotions and it was rolling up it's sleeves and facing the direction of a table where a large cluster of Royalty and their elites had gathered. "Hush." Louis said to his shadow who was forced to listen. Can't have all the shadows in the room breaking out into a fight now can we? As a special perk to being the current Shadow man of New Orleans, Louis' shadow received a mind of it's own from the Loa, which in his mind was both a blessing and curse. Not only did it mean he had someone to do his dirty work for him, but it was a pain to keep it under control and reeled in. Ah at least it couldn't physically hurt any of the other students, otherwise the son of Doctor Facilier would have been kicked out of Seacombe Halpworth long ago.
Louis heard his stomach grumble as he watched all the other students eat. Now the shadow kid was a bit of a finicky eater so for the most part he didn't eat here and just went down to the village in the evening to get something from Minnie's Homemade Treats. Now that place had great food, it's just that he kind of wasn't supposed to go there being a villain and all, but the quiche was to die for. Now Louis was from the only French speaking area in America so that statement had quite a bit of weight attached to it. "You, go back there and tell me if they have something edible today." Louis snapped at the shadow where with a slight nod, it slipped off and slinked into the back area where all the food was made. Louis didn't have to wait long before it came back with an exaggerated shrug to signify that no they didn't have anything the villain would like. Louis sighed in response, looks like after classes were over he was going to make a trip down to the village. To bad he couldn't send the shadow to go get him some of the French comfort food. Now that would make this hour far more bearable.
