Appearance: As a mermaid Isla has a bronze colored tail. Under the sea she often wears only a shell bra as it doesn’t get in her way as she swims. Her hair, naturally curly, is usually pulled back into a kind of bun to keep it from floating into her eyes. And on formal occasions she wears a tiara as a symbol of her station in life.
With her magically acquired human legs, Isla tends to be a bit more awkward, occassionaly tripping over something in her way. She doesn’t always know where her lower half is in space, only because she is still unaccustomed to legs and feet instead of a tail. Her hair, a mess upon dry land, is usually left in its naturally curly state, though she does sometimes straighten her hair if she feels like it. Isla would prefer to walk around in next to nothing, as clothing feels constricting, but as that is not acceptable in human society Isla has no choice but to don appropriate clothing. Usually she wears anything that fits her like a second skin, or tops or dresses that are flowy. She needs to be able to move without feeling inhibited in any way. More often than not, she wears a bathing suit under clothes so that she can head down to the lake to float around in the water.
Isla moves with grace and poise whenever possible. She walks with as much grace as she can manage and keeps her head up. She has excellent posture and is working on her two-legged balance issues.
Isla generally looks calm and collected. She’s fairly closed off to others, so she might be upset but wouldn’t show it on her face. She is more prone to showing positive emotions through smiling and laughter, though she usually keeps the actions small to an outsider.
Personality: Isla is a quiet girl. She tends to keep to herself and is very reserved, especially with people that she doesn’t know. She prefers to watch people, rather than join in, but isn’t afraid to give input when she feels it’s needed. She has a quiet sense of confidence where she doesn’t care about the opinions of people she doesn’t know. She does care a lot about what her family thinks, and though that may not always sway her decisions, it will impact her.
As an adopted merchild, Isla has always known she was different. Her mothers didn’t keep it from her and she’s grateful for that, but she can’t help but wonder about her biological parents. More to the point, she wonders why they gave her up and abandoned her. She can’t help but feel that she doesn’t really belong in the royal family and was never meant to.
She is generally a calm person and tries to keep her emotions to herself. It is only with people that she really trusts that she’ll talk about her true feelings. She lets her feelings out by drawing in the sand under the sea, or in a drawing pad that she keeps under her bed. Her drawing pad is something like a diary without the words.
As a princess, Isla tries to keep her head held high, especially when she feels like she’s under some kind of scrutiny. She keeps her head at these times, and while she would prefer to allow someone else to have control of a situation, Isla can and will rise to the occasion and be a leader. Most importantly she never wants to bring shame to her family.

Look into the Past
History:
Alana Triton, the sixth daughter of King Triton, found love and settled down with her partner to live happily ever after. Alana and her wife wanted to start a family of their own, but as they were unable to have a child of their own they decided to adopt an abandoned merchild.
Isla was raised in a small home under the sea with a lot of love. She was always spending time with her aunts and uncles and a whole lot of cousins. Her mothers were good to her and gave her everything that Isla could have ever asked for. She played with her cousins both below the water’s surface and up on land.
As much as Isla played with her cousins, she often preferred to play either on her own or one on one with someone. She often found herself isolated from the others, though she never minded. Her mothers, on the other hand, worried that she was not getting enough social interaction. And as Isla got older, the problem seemed much more pronounced that Alana’s sisters were noticing. Fearing that her child would end up alone, Alana and her wife decided that the best option would be to send her away to school to force Isla into the company of others.
Alana spoke to Ariel about her daughter and Ariel recommended that she send Isla to the Seacombe Halpworth Academy where she had sent Eli not long before. Alana agreed and sent Isla to the same school. The mergirl was 13.
She did her best in the new situation. Legs and feet were new as well as the classes she was expected to take. Of course she battled homesickness frequently and missed her mothers terribly, but was often comforted knowing that Eli was there at the school too. She spent a lot of time in the lake, relearning how to swim and just generally floating. She doesn’t hate school, but she’s not terribly fond of it either.
Isla has two more years of school left before she can return to her mothers, should she decide to do that. She’s doing her very best in her classes and an academic succss, though she is less social that her mothers would like. More than anything, Isla would like to finish school and go home.

Isla felt the wind puck up slightly, cool air blowing over her skin. She had her drawing pad on her lap and a pen in hand, sitting by the shore of the lake. Her tank top was on the ground next to her as she had debated swimming, but ultimately decided against it in favor of drawing.
She shivered against the slight chill, glancing up at the sky quickly, only then realizing that dark clouds were rolling in. The surface of the water danced with waves and the trees above were shaking in the wind. Quickly Isla shut her drawing pad and pulled her tank top back on. She stood quickly.
She wished she could hide in the water as she would have done back when she lived in the sea. It was safer under the surface than above, but she no longer had gills. This human body she borrowed didn’t have the lung capacity to stay under the water for very long either.
“A storm is coming,” she informed another student as pulled her flat shoes on. A gust of wind blew her hair straight into her face as she started back to her dorm where she planned to hide under her bed until the storm was over. She pushed her hair out of her eyes picking up her pace to make it back before the rain hit.
